@3ARE TRILOGIES THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD OF SELLING FANTASY FICTION?
===================================================================
@1
Clearly trilogies are simply the most effective method of filling an author's
and a publishing house's bank balance!
Most "trilogies" actually have about enough in them to fill about one and a
half volumes and the other half of the trilogy is simply irrelevant or
padding or both.
There are a few good trilogies out there, but, regrettably, I'm not going to
read them because as soon as I see a /new/ book proudly emblazoned with the
words "the first book in the new xyz trilogy" I instantly lose all interest
in it because the only thing is promises is that you are going to have to
purchase two more books simply to get the loose ends in the plot in the
first book tied up and I've got better things to waste my money on.
They are probably the worst method of selling Fantasy Fiction because anyone
who starts to read it via trilogies will get the impression that it is full
of poor authors who are weak on self-criticism and lazy editors who can't be
bothered to give a book a damn good blue pencilling and trim it down to a
reasonable size where the plot stays taut and to the point rather than
meandering all over several hundreds (if not thousands of pages).
